1 kitchen item creates condensation ‘barrier’ on windows
Mum Anita Birges, who describes herself as the “Queen of hacks”, has built a strong following on social media, where she shares an array of tips and tricks to help people organise their homes. In one popular video shared on TikTok, Anita detailed her method for tackling a build-up of condensation on her windows.
In the clip, she takes a dry microfibre cloth and squirts some washing up liquid on top of it before wiping down one of the windows in her living room. She purposefully left the two windows either side of the central pane uncleaned, so she could show the difference between the untreated glass and the central one that had been wiped down with the washing up liquid.
Later, the central glass window was clear of condensation while the two either side of it were fogged up. In the caption accompanying her clip, Anita added detailed instructions. She wrote: “You won’t regret trying this!
“Around this time of the year I do this hack without fail, and every single winter, it works like magic! You know that annoying condensation build-up on your windows and doors that ends up in puddles on the frame? Yep, I get it too! And this is how I fix it.”
She advised TikTok viewers to “grab your dishwashing liquid and a dry microfibre cloth” then “pop a small amount on the cloth and rub it vigorously all over the glass and frame.” Anita said if your cloth becomes too wet, it’s important to swap it for a dry one and “keep going”.
She added: “The dishwashing liquid creates a barrier that helps stop the condensation coming back. I only did the middle window to show the difference one day later, and just look at it. AMAZING! Now I’m off to do the rest of the house.”
In the comments section, fellow TikTok users were keen to share their thoughts, with many giving her method a try for themselves to positive success. One person took a more permanent approach to curing condensation, though.
They explained: “Installed a DVS two weeks ago, and NO wet windows since. Mind blown! Hated all the work I had with wet windows before.” A DVS (damp ventilation solution) is a home ventilation system typically installed to banish condensation and other issues caused by damp and moisture build up.
