16p cupboard staple banishes stubborn oven grease in minutes

Cleaning the inside of an oven can be a daunting task, particularly when it’s coated in stubborn grease and stains.

However, one woman has shared a potential time-saving hack that aims to reduce both the effort and cost involved. The mother, known online as @momamjm, claimed she can achieve a sparkling oven using just a dish of boiling water and a dishwasher tablet.

In a video that has garnered more than 148,000 likes, she demonstrated placing a dishwasher tablet in an oven-proof glass dish. The tablet she used was a Fairy Platinum dishwasher tablet, typically priced at around £15 for a bag of 94 (approximately 16p per tablet).

She then poured boiling water from the kettle over the tablet, allowing it to dissolve slightly before sliding the tray into the oven and closing the door. Setting the oven to 100°C, she let the tablet fully dissolve in the water while the oven heated.

After leaving the dish in the oven for about an hour, she found she could easily remove the grime with minimal effort. Explaining the process, the TikTok user said: “The steam containing active ingredients from the tablet will settle on the oven walls.”

“They have degreasing, dissolving, and cleaning properties. They will perfectly cover all the burnt food residues. The heat of the oven will speed up the dissolving process. As a result, you won’t need to scrub them.”

“After an hour, open the oven and wipe the walls with a wet sponge. The dirt will come off immediately. It will even collect heavily burnt residues like a magnet.”

Keeping on top of the household cleaning can be difficult, so one expert has weighed in on an often-overlooked task that you should do every week.  Whether you find cleaning the house satisfying or loathe doing it, you can’t deny that it can eat up a lot of time.

And because of this, there are certain tasks that can be overlooked, sometimes for months at a time. But now, one expert on social media has lifted the lid on something you probably forget to do around the house – and it should actually be done once a week for the best results.
