There are so many great shows available on the various streaming services, it can be hard to know what to watch next. But anyone on the quest for their next bingeable television programme are in luck, with five shows branded “absolute” necessities by fans.

Many people turn to social media looking for recommendations, with content creator Danillia, who posts online as The Series Reviewer, urging her fellow TikTok users to tune in to five shows available on Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and more. The programmes vary from murder mysteries, to dramatic crime thrillers, to reality TV. Speaking directly to the camera, Danillia simply said: “Some shows you absolutely need to watch in January 2026.”

His & Hers

Now streaming on Netflix

Danillia began with the new six-part series, His & Hers, based on Alice Feeney’s novel of the same name. She said: “It’s a mystery thriller where a detective and a journalist become the suspects while solving a murder.”

Star Tessa Thompson plays Anna, a news reporter who, after a personal tragedy, vanishes for a year, only to resurface when a former school friend is brutally murdered. Her estranged husband is the lead investigator of the case, but he’s got secrets of his own too.

Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials

Out on January 15 on Netflix

Danillia said: “It’s a period ‘whodunnit’ based on the classic Christie novel, with secrets and scandal.” Originally published in 1929, Seven Dials tells the story of a lavish country house party prank which turns deadly.

The Netflix adaptation follows suit, seeing “witty young aristocrat” Lady Eileen ‘Bundle’ Brent “set out to solve the mystery”. Mia McKenna-Bruce plays the high spirited investigator, with screen veterans Helena Bonham Carter and Martin Freeman also starring.

Steal

Out on January 21 on Amazon Prime

The Series Reviewer summarised: “Sophie Turner stars in this high stakes heist. It’s a thriller about ordinary employees who are caught in a crime.”

Game of Thrones alum Turner – who is due to play Lara Croft in Amazon MGM Studios Tomb Raider series – plays office worker Zara whose ordinary life changes dramatically when “a gang of violent thieves burst in and force” her and her best friend Luke, played by Archie Madekwe, “to execute their demands”, according to Amazon.

The Traitors

Now streaming on BBC iPlayer

Danillia said: “The Traitors is back for its fourth season for all of my reality TV show lovers. I know people are obsessed with this show.”

The fourth instalment of the smash hit reality show kicked off on BBC One on New Year’s Day. Presented by Claudia Winkleman, it sees a group of strangers descend on Scotland’s Ardross Castle for games of deceit and manipulation alongside physical challenges, as they work together to build a lucrative cash prize.

By nightfall, the Traitors hope to remain undetected as they “kill off” their teammates in order to scoop the money for themselves. Those craving more Traitors action can also tune into past seasons as well as the US, New Zealand, Australia and celebrity editions of the show, all streaming on BBC iPlayer.

A Thousand Blows

Now streaming on Disney+

Concluding her list, Danillia explained: “We have A Thousand Blows back for its second season. I absolutely adored this show – if you haven’t watched season one of this show, go and watch it.

“It follows Jamaican boxer Hezekiah Moscow, based on a true story, we’re gonna not have one of my favourite season one characters in this of course but if you haven’t watched it, I’m not gonna spoil it for you. Definitely go and give this a watch.”

The series follows Hezekiah and his best friend Alec, as they fight to survive against the violent backdrop of Victorian London’s East End. Soon, they end up crossing paths with dangerous veteran boxer, Sugar Goodson, played by Stephen Graham. Adolescence fans will also spot Graham’s talented co-star Erin Doherty who shines as Mary Carr, the leader of an all-female crime syndicate.
