How to remove yellow stains from plastic food containers
Bid adieu to those stubborn stains on your plastic food containers with this simple trick.
Whipping up large batches of meals and saving the leftovers in containers can undoubtedly be a prudent way to save cash and reduce cooking hours.
However, if you’ve ever stuffed those plastic tubs with leftover pasta, curry, or any other saucy dish, you’re likely familiar with the cleansing battle that follows.
Sauces rich in tomato and certain spices like turmeric are notorious for leaving yellowish stains on your containers, and unfortunately, no amount of vigorous scrubbing appears to erase these blemishes.
But don’t fret about discarding your tubs – there’s a clever method to restore their original pristine condition.
In a TikTok video, a woman – who goes by the username @shpresseyyy – revealed eradicating stains from your plastic containers only requires three items that are readily available in most households.
You just need warm water, washing up liquid, and a paper towel.
She demonstrated: “If your containers have yellow stains that you just can’t get out no matter how hard you scrub, let me show you a quick hack.
“Fill up [your container] with a little bit of water, you’re going to need some soap, and you’re going to need a piece of paper towel. You just throw the paper towel in there and squirt in some soap. It’s that simple.”
The process is unbelievably easy – just pop all the ingredients into the tub and give it a good shake.
In her video, the woman excitedly noted: “You can already see it going away. The paper towel mixed with the soap and water just takes away all the stains.”
She then showcased the promising results on camera – emptying the now yellowed water and stained paper towel into a bowl. After a swift rinse with clean water to remove the remaining soap suds, the container was left spotless.
Thrilled with the outcome, she shared: “It’s literally perfect! You don’t have to scrub for 40 hours to get your sponge to clean it. Unbelievable. Same one, mad stains, stains are gone.”
The woman admitted she was “clueless” as to why it worked so well, but commenters quickly chimed in with their theories about the “magic” trick.
One explained: “The soap pulls the grease out to the surface and the paper towel is the final surface for the grease to settle on. The sponge/rag is just pushing the grease around. Paper towels are pretty absorbent.”
Awash with praise, many viewers couldn’t wait to try the hack themselves.
Among the glowing tributes, one individual enthused: “You’re a genius,” while another acknowledged: “This was actually enlightening.”
