Brits going to Benidorm issued urgent warning by resident | World | News

A TikTok sensation in Benidorm has issued a stark warning to British tourists looking to enjoy the city’s famous nightlife: “Don’t ever leave yourself on your own.”

Nigel Pope, originally from Cornwall, said Brits that get drunk in Benidorm and get detached from their holiday party risk being exposed to dangerous people looking to “take advantage” of them.

Mr Pope, who has earned the moniker “The King of Benidorm” for his legendary tours of the city, told Express.co.uk: “The easiest way to stay out of trouble is to make sure you’re not paralytically drunk on your own.

“If you are going to get drunk, which obviously is going to happen in Benidorm, then you have to stay together as a group. Don’t ever leave yourself on your own.”

Mr Pope, who has amassed hundreds of thousands of TikTok followers, added that punters shouldn’t carry any unnecessary valuables with them for a night out in the city’s well-known ‘English Square’.

He said: “Don’t take too much out with you at night. If you’re going out, just take enough cash. You don’t need a lot. Stay in well lit areas basically. You can see where most people are and [are] going.”

Explaining how he earned his title as the city’s unofficial ‘King’, he told our reporter: “Someone mentioned King of Benidorm and it seems to have stuck now. Everybody says, ‘you’re the King’, ‘you’re the best’, and everything else, because I’m like the first and original TikToker guide in Benidorm.

“Most people come to the bar because most of my [TikTok] ‘lives’ [are shot] when I’m going to and from the bar.

“So of course everybody knows how to get there because they’re following me daily on my trips to and from work.

“A lot of people do come and see me. In the street, I get recognised all the time.”

The King warned that Benidorm is a safe place to enjoy a night out so long as you’re in a group. It’s when partygoers are isolated that they run into problems.

“It’s not a problem. The only problem is if you happen to be on your own and you happen to be a little bit under the weather”, he said.

“If you were in that position there are unfortunately a few people around that would try and take advantage of that and try and relieve you of anything you’ve got.

“You know, it does happen. It can happen anywhere you know. The main thing is stay together as groups if you’re going to have a drink.”
