Man cashes in 80-year-old coin stash – and he’s stunned by total
You never really know what you’ve got hiding in your coin possession.
But some people often hold a stash of money for months, if not years. Now one man unveiled his 80-year-old collection – and the total is rather eye-opening.
In a post on TikTok, user @UK.Coin.Hunt, who has an impressive 451,000 followers, revealed his extensive collection which he’s had for decades.
His caption read: “80 years of saving loose change.” Now if you do the math, that’s a lot of money…
We’re not talking 1p or 2p coins, in his stash are 50p, £1 and even £2 coins.
The video began with the line: “Cashing in 80 years worth of loose change that I’ve saved.”
At the start, the initial count of his savings reached a notable £420.50, but after adding more coins, the total climbed to £581.
Ultimately, the grand sum amounted to £627.50, a staggering figure for anyone who might have underestimated their coin stash.
Coin collecting isn’t just a profitable pastime, it’s also touted as a stress-reliever and a captivating distraction. The TikTok video showcasing the man’s windfall has since attracted 370 likes and numerous comments.
Enthusiasts were quick to spot a valuable rare coin among the mix, with one commenting: “You cashed a Kew Gardens!” Another echoed the sentiment, while a different user noted: “Yet every coin is new.”
Another individual commented: “I saw a rare coin.” A fellow user responded: “Well considering the £2 coin has only been around since 98, your count may be a bit off.”
In other coin news, an “ultra-rare” Kew Gardens 50p piece could fetch up to £7,000 if you’re lucky enough to find one.
The original sought-after coin was first minted in 2009 to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the renowned London landmark. With just 210,000 of these coins released into circulation, its rarity makes it a hot commodity among collectors.
