Jane’s Addiction cancel tour after singer punches guitarist on stage | Ents & Arts News
Rock band Jane’s Addiction have cancelled the rest of their tour after singer Perry Farrell punched guitarist Dave Navarro on stage.
The American group were due to perform 14 more shows on their Imminent Redemption reunion tour in Canada and the US, which was due to end in mid-October.
But after frontman Farrell threw a punch at Navarro during their gig in Boston, Massachusetts, on Friday night, Jane’s Addiction posted on Instagram: “To all the fans, the band have made the difficult decision to take some time away as a group.
“As such, they will be cancelling the remainder of the tour.
“The group, which formed in Los Angeles in 1985, said refunds for the cancelled dates would be issued.
Videos posted on social media showed Farrell, 65, becoming upset as they played their 1986 song Ocean Size.
The singer was filmed walking towards Navarro and shouting in his face before aggressively bumping shoulders with the guitarist.
Navarro, 57, eventually stopped playing and put a hand up to Farrell’s chest as the singer continued to shout at his longtime bandmate.
He then punched Navarro’s shoulder as others, including bassist Eric Avery, intervened to break it up.
Farrell’s wife, singer and dancer Etty Lau Farrell, gave a first-hand account of how the night unravelled for the band, which also includes drummer Stephen Perkins.
In an Instagram post which includes a video of the brawl, she said “clearly there had been a lot of tension and animosity between the members”.

She went on: “Perry’s frustration had been mounting, night after night, he felt that the stage volume had been extremely loud and his voice was being drowned out by the band.”
Etty Lau Farrell said her husband had been struggling with tinnitus and a sore throat “every night”.
But he “lost it” when the audience started complaining about not being able to hear his voice and became a “crazed beast for the next half an hour”, she added.
She said her husband “cried and cried” in the aftermath of the fight.
