Hair expert shares 86p food item that can help ‘combat’ frizzy hair
While it can be tempting to stick to a usual routine, colder weather needs special attention when it comes to caring for your hair.
Not only can your hair become dry and dull due to the cold weather but it can cost a fortune doing so. One hair treatment, called hair botox is the latest beauty trend that people are going crazy for.
The trend, which is more commonly known as a keratin treatment, can deeply condition, rehydrate and smooth the hair. The only problem is that it can cost a pretty penny.
Thankfully, global beauty and wellness experts at Fresha have shared the top beauty hair hacks that don’t break the bank.
Even better they are items which are already found in many people’s homes, specifically, the kitchen. Specifically one of them only costs 86p from supermarket giant Tesco.
Control frizzy hair
Forget hair masks, mayonnaise is the go-to for freshening up hair. Mayonnaise is an easy, affordable alternative to hair moisturiser as it controls frizzy hair and fights dandruff.
Yet it’s also a secret weapon for locking in the colour in dyed hair. Add this to your hair when damp, starting at the top of the scalp and smoothing down to the ends of your hair. Rinse after 20 minutes for the best results.
You can pick up a bottle from supermarkets including Tesco for just 86p, 95p from Aldi or 96p from Asda.
Perk up your hair
Admittedly, champagne isn’t the most affordable item on this list. However you might have some left over after a party, and that’s where this multi-purpose hack comes in.
Instead of using expensive shampoos to revitalise your highlights, just comb through a bit of champagne onto your damp hair and gently blend it in from top to bottom.
This hack works best on blonde-highlighted hair, as champagne highlights the golden shine and glow in your hair. If you don’t have any champagne in the fridge, try a can of beer to make your hair silky and soft.
Meanwhile, Dr Balwi, a leading hair surgeon at Elithair, also explained why it is important to look after your hair throughout the year.
Implement a hair care routine
Dr Balwi said: “Establish a hair care regimen that promotes a healthy scalp. Steer clear of frequent use of heat styling tools, choose gentler shampoos and consistently moisturise your hair to maintain its strength and hydrate effectively. Regular scalp massages can boost blood circulation and encourage hair growth.”
Eat a balanced diet, and stay hydrated
“Ensuring your diet is rich in essential vitamins and minerals is vital for maintaining healthy hair, especially during the hotter months. Make sure to include sufficient Vitamin D, B-complex vitamins, zinc, and iron in your daily meals.
“You can do this by incorporating foods such as leafy greens, nuts, seeds, eggs, and fish into your diet. Drinking an adequate amount of water will also keep your scalp hydrated, as dehydration can also worsen the effects of heat from the sun on your hair. It is recommended that you should aim to drink 6 to 8 cups or glasses of fluid each day.”
Sophie Vongkhamsao, a house beauty and content specialist at Fresha, finally said: “These kitchen beauty hacks are all about making life easier, nourishing your winter hair while still looking incredible. However, it’s important to remember that everyone’s hair is different.
“Before trying any new DIY hack using kitchen ingredients, we strongly recommend consulting with a professional or healthcare provider to ensure it’s safe and suitable for you.”
