You’ve been dusting wrong – hygiene expert exposes mistake
Dusting is a vital part of any cleaning routine. It removes dust and dirt, keeping your home clean and air healthy.
Staying on top of it helps prevent allergies and keeps furniture and electronics in good working condition. However, it sometimes feels like dust sticks to your surfaces so fast between cleans, no matter how often you do it.
But this could be because you’re doing it wrong. Mary Futher, who is known as Madame Sweat, is known for sharing her cleaning and hygiene tips online — from tackling body odour to bathroom infestations.
Now, she has taken to social media to let fans know how they can stop dust from sticking to their surfaces so easily, with one simple change to their cleaning routines.
In the video, which has gained more than 6,400 likes, she explained: “Use a tactic that you only have to dust your home once a month. You want to mix in a spray bottle, vinegar, and water.
“Then you add olive oil that actually helps repel the dust. Spray this mixture wherever you get dust. You’ll find that you’ll only have to dust once a month.”
The recipe for the hack she uses requires 1/2 cup of white vinegar, two cups warm water, and ¼ cup extra-virgin olive oil. Simply pour each ingredient into a spray bottle and shake until the ingredients are combined, according to the Martha Stewart website.
In the caption on Instagram, she dubbed it a “must know dusting hack” and many of her fans agreed. Taking to the comments, one viewer said: “Thank you for this! I can see this working great – kinda like micellar water on skin.”
Another added: “It works, no question.” Someone else penned: “It’s true because I’ve been doing this now for five years now and I just hit my room with the solution once a month.”
