F1 LIVE: Brazilian Grand Prix start time moved as Lewis Hamilton plead | F1 | Sport
Brazilian Grand Prix qualifying has been moved to Sunday in an unlikely move, but heavy rain postponed the event and forced Saturday evening’s session to be cancelled.
The qualifying session had been due to start at 6pm UK time on Saturday, but a decision was finally made at 1.45pm, after a series of delays, that the track was too wet and conditions were not going to improve.
A joint statement from governing body the FIA and Formula 1 said: “The decision was taken not to proceed with qualifying due to poor visibility, standing water on the track and fading light.
“Safety is always the paramount consideration in such circumstances and, while as much time as possible was given to allow conditions to improve, they sadly did not.”
Instead, Lando Norris was forced to wait as he attempted to cut into Max Verstappen‘s lead in the Drivers’ Championship. The Red Bull man leads by 44 points.
However, that advantage was slimmed when Norris won the sprint race in Sao Paolo, though did get an almighty helping hand from his team-mate Oscar Piastri.
