Man Utd stars ‘losing confidence in Ruben Amorim’ as INEOS face unrest | Football | Sport

Members of the Manchester United dressing room are reportedly beginning to lose confidence in Ruben Amorim following another bruising defeat against Tottenham.

The Red Devils are yet to make any serious improvements under new boss Amorim, with United languishing in the bottom half of the table, three places above the relegation zone.

United’s defeat away to Tottenham on Sunday was their eighth loss from the previous 12 Premier League outings, meaning since Amorim took charge, he’s masterminded just four league wins.

Only four teams have picked up fewer points across the last 10 league matches than United and, as per a fresh report, it’s caused some players to question the Portuguese star’s approach.

That’s according to The Daily Mail, who report Amorim still has the backing of the club’s hierarchy, but several players aren’t yet fully convinced by his methods.

It’s claimed by the outlet that when United win, the belief in the dressing room is it’s more often than not down to a moment of individual brilliance and not Amorim’s tactical charm.

Significant examples include Amad Diallo’s stunning brace in the final minutes away to Manchester City, or the Ivorian’s equally impressive second-half hat-trick against Southampton earlier this year.

But with talk of Amad missing the rest of the season because of a ligament injury, Amorim has lost one of – if not the only – bright spark from his early United tenure.

INEOS, headed by Sir Jim Ratcliffe, have now been left with a conundrum on their hands heading into the summer window.

After splurging close to £200million during the 2024 summer transfer window, United’s hierarchy now have a decision to make about how much they back Amorim with during the off-season.

The £30m purchase of Patrick Dorgu was the only incoming signing of note for United in January, meaning Amorim is still attempting to cobble together a team that suits his style of play from a crop of players mainly signed under former boss Erik ten Hag.

But with Profit and Sustainability Rules concerns starting to grow, there’s a belief within the United camp that they’ll have to sell players in the summer before they can invest elsewhere.

Unsurprisingly, Amorim has remained unwavering when fronting up after United’s recent defeats in the Premier League.

Speaking after Spurs, he stated: “Of course [we’re frustrated], for us, for our fans. But we need to stop focusing on the big picture, it’s not the moment to do that, just focus on the next game.

“Do everything to win some games to finish the season and then think in the big picture. In this moment, it’s just to try to keep the players healthy, recover some players and focus on what we have to do in the next game.”

It doesn’t get much easier for Amorim this weekend though, as a trip to face in-form Everton awaits the under-fire Red Devils boss.
