Luke Littler hits stunning 9-dart leg vs MVG as pundits notice immediate ‘wobble’ | Other | Sport
Luke Littler had a “wobble” straight after throwing a nine-dart leg in tonight’s Premier League Darts final against Michael van Gerwen. While leading 2-1, ‘The Nuke’ hit seven consecutive 180s before setting up his chance with a treble 17.
The 18-year-old duly took out double 15 to send the crowd into raptures. However, the star himself seemed unsure, initially pausing and looking at the board closely before realising his feat. When the moment dawned, he exploded into celebration after many near misses at the perfect leg already this season.
“There was a wobble there,” said Sky Sports commentator John Part, describing the delayed reaction. “And then there was the celebrations. He loves the double 15. Luke Littler blasts a nine-darter in the final.”
It was the highlight of what proved a high-quality finale in Cardiff, with ‘MVG’ not letting the furore affect him as he battled back to level at 3-3. The pair were then locked at 4-4 before, crucially, Littler broke to set up the chance to throw for glory.
The teenager was ruthless from there, taking out double 20 to increase his lead at the top of the standings. He finished the final with a 112.80 average after racking up 10 maximums during the match.
Afterwards, he admitted he couldn’t tell if his ninth dart had hit the target, saying: “No, I had no idea it was in. I just had to wait for him to call it. You could see my face there, is it? Is it?”
Littler added his target now was to seal qualification for finals night as quickly as possible. He also joked that darts fans might forgive him for previously denying them a nine-dart leg in earlier Premier League meetings this year.
“Tonight I was really happy with how I played, especially with the doubles,” he added. “There’s plenty more to come and still another nine weeks left. We get booed as players but once you hit a 180 or a good finish, hopefully they’re on my side now.”
