Marks and Spencer issues voucher warning | Personal Finance | Finance
High street retailer Marks and Spencer is telling shoppers with paper gift vouchers they have four and a half months left to use them.
M&S has posted warnings both online and at the front of its stores reminding customers that from 1 October 2025 paper gift vouchers will no longer be taken as payment both online and in store.
Paper vouchers have not been available to purchase in store for a few years, however customers with a Marks & Spencer credit card have more recently been sent them as part of the retailer’s loyalty rewards programme.
Customers who have M&S paper vouchers are being urged to contact M& customer service while those who have vouchers via their M&S credit card rewards can get them converted to digital rewards in the M&S app or at marksandspencer.com.
Shoppers can continue to use the paper gift vouchers until 30 September and they are taken as payment for all M&S goods including food and drink.
As long as shoppers convert the vouchers they can continue to be used.
M&S first introduced paper gift vouchers in 1975, followed by gift cards in 2007 and e-vouchers in 2015. During Christmas 2023, over 2 million customers gave M&S gift cards to family and friends.
The warning comes as M&S (Marks and Spencer) continues to deal with the aftermath of a cyber attack late last month.
This week it issued a new update to customers after the high street giant revealed some personal customer information has been stolen by hackers. M&S stopped online orders on Friday, April 25 after it reported being targeted in a cyberattack, and is still not processing sales online.
In an update on social media chief executive Stuart Machin revealed further detail about what occurred, and sought to reassure customers over the breach, saying the information taken didn’t include “usable card or payment details, or account passwords”.
