Florian Wirtz doubts raised after Liverpool given £126m price tag | Football | Sport
Leverkusen have rejected two offers from the Reds for Wirtz, with the most recent being £110m. Another offer is anticipated soon for the player who scored 16 goals and provided 13 assists across all competitions last season.
According to German outlet BILD, there will likely be no issues regarding personal terms, as Wirtz has agreed to a contract that would keep him in Merseyside until 2030. Given these revelations and the growing chances of a deal being finalized soon, Richards and Shearer discussed Wirtz, both expressing concern solely about his young physique.
Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast, Shearer questioned co-host Richards: “Is he that good Micah?” To which the former Manchester City defender retorted: “He’s exceptional.
“Obviously, he’s got to do it in a league which is more physical. That is my only doubt. It’s my only doubt. Tactically, he’s got it. Technically, he’s got it. The way he manipulates the ball… he was a superstar from a young age, so he can deal with pressure. It’s just, where does he fit into the system?
“Is he gonna play in Dominik Szoboszlai’s role? Or is he gonna play him out on the left-hand side, because he can do both, and honestly, for £120million he’s worth every single penny.”
Adding his take, Shearer said: “I’ve seen him quite a bit this season in the Champions League, and there’s no doubt he’s a really, really talented player.
“It’s a hell of a lot of money, but I think he’ll be a success. I would say the same in terms of the physical side of things. With technical ability and all of that, he’s a very, very good player.”
While Liverpool supporters are eager for a swift resolution, ex-Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has suggested that negotiations could take some time. However, he did hint at a positive outcome, stating that Wirtz is enthusiastic about the move and is likely to join the Reds.
