Huge brawl breaks out at Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford weigh-in | Boxing | Sport

Tensions boiled over when Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford came face-to-face ahead of their Saturday night fight. The two weighed in at 167.5 pounds, ensuring there weren’t any problems heading into the weekend bout.

However, the drama came off the scales, with a violent brawl breaking out between fans inside the Las Vegas-based T-Mobile Arena. Video footage on social media depicts small groups of supporters exchanging blows in the lower bowl of the area, with security nowhere to be seen.

There was a heavy presence of Canelo fans, with his supporters having congregated outside the arena hours before the fighters even appeared. Crawford’s name and any appearance on the big screen were met by fierce boos, with the even quickly descended into chaos.

Punches were thrown by those involved, with some seen wearing Canelo shirts and sombreros – a reference to the boxer’s Mexican nationality. They were eventually pulled apart by onlookers, with attention returning to the two fighters on the stage.

The fight is being broadcast on Netflix, with plenty on the line when Canelo and Crawford step into the ring. A win for the former would cement him as one of boxing’s all-time fighters, while ticking off another elite boxer en route to the top.

Speaking ahead of the fight, Canelo said: “I feel great. For me, this fight means a lot and I feel great. Ready. I can’t wait for Saturday night. I can’t wait for Saturday night and thank everybody coming to support the event. This fight for me is big. It’s one of the biggest fights in my career. For sure it means a lot…this win is going to be in the very top.”

Crawford chimed in with: “Well I think fights like this help the sport of boxing grow in the sense of having the best fight the best and it ain’t going to do nothing but make the sport better and the best is going to start fighting the best…

“Well, anybody can be a nobody. And for what everybody say, I haven’t fought anybody. So come Saturday we’re going to all see.”
