Airport horror as two packed passenger planes collide in major city | World | News

Two passenger planes collided at an airport in a major city with one person left injured. The crash took place shortly before 10pm on Wednesday (October 1) and saw a wing ripped off one of the planes.

The two Delta planes collided while taxiing at low speed at LaGuardia Airport in New York. All 85 passengers were evacuated from the jets while a flight attendant was the only reported casualty. The passengers have been given new flight options, as well as hotel rooms and meals.

As reported by the Daily Mail, one passenger said his plane was “absolutely smashed” by the other jet shortly after landing. They described the situation as “chaotic” and left those onboard “shocked”.

The passenger said: “We were taxiing to our runway and we got absolutely smashed by another Delta flight… I don’t know if we hit them or they hit us but it was super jarring. Everyone shot forward in their seats, it was a little chaotic, we were shocked at what happened.”

The planes involved were the Endeavor Air flight 5155, departing for Roanoke, Virginia, and the Endeavor Air flight 5047, which had just arrived from Charlotte. Pictures show the nose of one of the planes suffered significant damage.

A Delta spokesperson said: “Delta will work with all relevant authorities to review what occurred as the safety of our customers and people comes before all else. We apologize to our customers for the experience.”

Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the airport confirmed a flight attendant “suffered non-life threatening injuries”. They were taken to hospital as a precaution.

The spokesperson added: “Passengers were deplaned on the taxiway and transferred via buses back to Terminal C. Passengers on the departing planes will be rebooked to another flight.”

It comes after two people died in a plane crash near Centennial Airport in Denver, Colorado, earlier this month. The aircraft reportedly burst into flames with witnesses reporting a “loud boom”.
