Carlos Alcaraz has just joined elite club as Spaniard rakes in millions | Tennis | Sport
Only seven other male players have won at least eight ATP tournaments in a calendar year since 1990. Pete Sampras and Roger Federer did it four times each, while Rafael Nadal managed it on three occasions and Novak Djokovic twice.
Sinner achieved the feat last year, while Thomas Muster and Andy Murray did it in 1995 and 2016 respectively, It serves to highlight just how dominant Alcaraz has been across the board over the last 12 months.
He has also been raking in millions of pounds as a result of his various successes. Alcaraz sits at the top of the ATP money list for 2025, having won over £11.6m in prize money since the beginning of the year.
There is clear daylight to Sinner in second place, with the Italian banking around £8.6m for the year. Djokovic sits in third place but is way behind the top two, having scooped £3.5m over the last 10 months.
It comes after Alcaraz was accused of ‘fattening his wallet’ after signing up for an exhibition match against Joao Fonseca in the United States.
John Isner, who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals back in 2018, reacted to the news by saying: “He is the face of tennis. There’s no doubt about it. Fattening his wallet.”
Most of Alcaraz’s prize money for 2025 came from his US Open triumph, with the man from Murcia landing a £3.7m payday. Other seven-figure scores arrived at the French Open and Wimbledon.
Alcaraz pocketed nearly £310,000 for winning the Japan Open at the end of last month and will be hoping to add to his tally at the year-end ATP Finals in November.
However, he will need to fend off competition from Sinner, who is the defending champion and will be desperate to retain his title.
