Heartwarming reason behind Tyson Fury’s suit at Ricky Hatton funeral | Boxing | Sport

It is not uncommon for Fury to wear a striking suit, with the Gypsy King known for wearing daring outfits when promoting his fights. A funeral is obviously a much different setting, but it now appears there might have been some heartwarming context behind his choice of attire.

In 2020, Fury wore a silver suit featuring dozens of pictures of other boxers when he was a special guest for TNT Sport’s coverage of Daniel Dubois’ victory over Ricardo Snijders. Standing beside him was former rival David Haye, who may have thought his green and black suit was rather out there.

When Fury appeared on screen, Hatton could not believe what he was seeing. While recording a television screen in a bar, the late boxing legend couldn’t stop giggling as he taunted the Gypsy King’s outfit on his Instagram page.

He said: “Tyson, what are you doing with that suit on? I remember when David Haye used to wear s*** suits, but now you’ve overtook him, oh my god!”

Fast-forward to the day of the boxing legend’s funeral, Fury’s suit was similar to the one he sported when Hatton playfully taunted him. The outfit appeared to be a nod to their friendship and shared sense of humour, with the boxers known to have been good friends and spent a lot of time together in and outside of the gym.

Hatton’s funeral was a poignant occasion which brought the whole of Manchester together. His funeral cortege passed several places which meant a lot to the Hitman.

Beginning in his hometown of Hyde, Greater Manchester, it made its way from his local boozer, the Cheshire Cheese pub, to the Manchester Cathedral, where his service was held in front of family and friends. It also passed the AO Arena, where he overcame pound-for-pound great Kostya Tszyu in 2005.

His parents’ old pub, the New Inn, was also a prominent stop in the journey, which also went past the Etihad Stadium, home to his beloved Manchester City. On his way into the cathedral, a brass band played a spine-tingling edition of ‘Walking in a Hatton wonderland,’ which is played to the melody of ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland.’

Throughout his last journey through his home city, thousands of fans lined the streets to wave goodbye, before his close friends and family were able to share their memories in an emotional service.
