Brit who moved to US shares 10 things she doesn’t like about living there | America | Travel

Relocating to the United States might seem like a thrilling adventure, with the promise of immersing oneself in a new culture. However, it’s not without its challenges and there are bound to be things you miss about home.

This is the reality that a British family-of-four, who moved to Florida 12 weeks ago, are beginning to realise. Emily, her partner Jay, and their two children have been documenting their experiences online since their move.

Despite confessing her love for the balmy evenings and picturesque “pond view” from their new home, Emily has also shared some aspects of American life that she’s less than thrilled about.

In a recent TikTok video titled “10 things we don’t like since we moved from the UK to Florida”, Emily voiced her concerns. One of her main gripes is the public bathroom stalls, which have gaps on either side of the doors, compromising privacy.

She stated: “I don’t like it. I don’t like the lack of privacy.”

Another issue for Emily is the apparent absence of WhatsApp, as texting seems to be the preferred method of communication in the US. “To me, that is old school,” Emily remarked.

She also expressed her frustration with “Florida drivers”, describing them as “wild and aggressive,”. However, she remains hopeful that she’ll soon adjust to the local driving habits.

Emily also revealed that since relocating to Florida, they’ve been plagued by “multiple people soliciting at our door, trying to sell their business”. Emily admitted she’s not a fan, but recognises she can put an end to it by displaying a sign.

She went on to say: “Five, when you’re filling up your car and it’s the slowest pump ever.”

According to Emily, every petrol station they’ve visited has taken an eternity to fill up the car.

Another thing Emily has observed is “how long the mail takes” when it’s not an Amazon Prime delivery. “It takes a week to 10 days for anything to arrive,” she alleged.

Emily also highlighted the “bugs at nighttime”, which are “relentless in Florida. She added: “The second that the sun goes down they are swarming everywhere. “Next, Emily confessed her dislike for the snakes, having already encountered two on their property. She added: “I don’t really like having poisonous snakes in my garden.”

“Last but not least” on Emily’s list was the “very confusing healthcare system,” as she says there is a lot of paperwork, which she’s sure they’ll get used to. Despite all these things, she said: “Ignoring those 10 things, it’s still the best thing we have ever done and we love our life out here. “.
