Trump’s Gaza peace deal on brink as Israel kills 6 Palestinians | World | News
Israeli forces have killed 6 Palestinians who they say crossed the ceasefire line in Gaza City on Monday, putting Donald Trump‘s ceasefire deal at risk of collapse. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) said the suspects were approaching forces in the eastern neighbourhood of Shejaiya this morning (Tuesday, October 14).
The military claimed the individuals crossed the line of withdrawal and were approaching its soldiers when they were killed. The IDF confirmed they “removed the threat” before the Palestinians were able to breach an army encampment in the area. As reported by the Times of Israel, the military said: “The IDF calls on Gaza residents to follow its instructions and not to approach the troops deployed in the area.”
The killings come just a day after Hamas freed all remaining hostages as part of a ceasefire deal. Israel also sent 38 buses of Palestinian detainees back to Gaza.
Israel forces have withdrawn but still remain in control of around 53% of Gaza under the first phase of the peace deal. However, the IDF said Palestinians that were shot today “violated the agreement” and attempts were made to distance them.
The IDF added: “The suspects did not comply and continued to approach the forces, and the forces carries out shooting to remove the threat.”
Health authorities have confirmed that six Palestinians have been killed by the IDF. While the peace deal is under way, the families of 24 Israeli hostages are still waiting for their bodies from Gaza.
Donald Trump signed the historic Israel-Gaza peace plan on Monday (October 13). He said: “This took 3,000 years to get to this point. Can you believe it? And it’s going to hold up too. It’s going to hold up.”
He added: “This is the day that people across this region and around the world have been working, striving, hoping, and praying for.
“They have done things over the last month that I think were really unthinkable. Nobody thought this could happen. With the historic agreement we have just signed, those prayers of millions have finally been answered.”
However, the deal is now at risk of collapse after six Palestinians were shot by Israeli forces. The IDF has confirmed that the suspects did not breach an army camp on the ceasefire line.
