Nationwide issues 7-day deadline to current account customers | Personal Finance | Finance
Nationwide has issued an alert to current account holders not to miss out on an upcoming deadline. The building society’s FlexStudent account provides a number of benefits including £100 in cash, £120 in Just Eat vouchers, an interest-free overdraft of up to £3,000, as well as other incentives.
However, time is running out for students to apply this year. Nationwide is reminding eligible customers interested in the product will need to open an account on or before Wednesday, October 29, when the deal ends. Fred Powell, head of product at Nationwide Building Society, said: “Last year students loved our FlexStudent offer, so much so that we attracted more than a quarter of the student current account market. Given its popularity, we’ve brought it back for a second year and made it bigger, better, and even more rewarding. That’s why we’re delighted to see that even more students have chosen Nationwide as their Student banking provider this year.”
To qualify for the 2025 offer, students must open an account ahead of the deadline, and put at least £500 into the account before December 12, 2025
You’ll also need to:
- be at least 18 or older and have lived in the UK for at least three years
- be on, or about to start, a full-time UCAS course of at least two years
- have an unconditional offer or a confirmed place for a course starting in the next five months or have at least six months left on your course
- be able to pay in at least £500 each term
- not have another student bank account (if you do, you could switch it to Nationwide)
A four-digit UCAS code is also required. Those without an unconditional offer or a confirmed place are asked to come back when they do.
Benefits for the 2025 offer include:
- £100 cashback into FlexStudent account within 14 calendar days of crediting it by at least £500 by December 12, (£500 doesn’t need to be a one-off transaction).
- Just Eat vouchers which can be used online: eligible account openings will get a registration code and can access the £10 voucher code every month for the first 12 months via a voucher portal. Students will get access to the portal within 14 days of becoming eligible.
- Access to an interest-free, fee-free, flexible overdraft throughout a student’s studies (subject to status). Students can request a maximum of £1,000 in the first year, £2,000 in their second year and up to £3,000 in year three (accounts can be held beyond three years with the maximum £3,000 overdraft). However, to do so, they have to pay in at least £500 each term, as well as keep up with bill payments and keep within the overdraft limit that’s been arranged.
You can also get an additional £40 of Just Eat vouchers for successfully referring up to two friends (£20 a time), while their friend will also get £20.
FlexStudent account holders also don’t have to pay Nationwide fees for using their card abroad for making purchases or taking cash out.
You’ll get access to FlexGraduate – a post-university current account that includes an interest-free, fee-free arranged overdraft designed to help students find their feet after university, and give them time to pay off the overdraft when their course ends.
