People are being urged to use their tumble dryers during a certain time window to save money on their energy bills.
Amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis, households continue to look to save money wherever possible, and the tumble dryer is one of the most energy-guzzling appliances to be found in our homes.
But with the cold and wet weather now here for the foreseeable, there are often few alternatives but to use the gadgets to dry our clothes. Thankfully, experts at Which? have shared how people may be able to operate their tumble dryers for less.
According to the consumer champion platform, cheaper off-peak electricity tends to be available after 10pm and before 8am.
As long as you’re at home and awake, this would be a cheaper time to use your tumble dryer, so consider popping a load in before you go to bed, or in the morning before work.
A Which? article also suggests people look for promotions from your energy company, such as PeakSave from British Gas, which gives some smart meter customers 50% off electricity between 11am and 4pm on Sundays.
If you can save your tumble drying until a certain day, it could be a good way to dry your clothes cheaply.
It’s also wise when using a tumble dryer not to overfill it. This is because it won’t work efficiently if the air cannot move around freely. Which? said that when it tests tumble dryers, they are filled only to 70% of their rated cottons capacity.
