Ed Miliband destroys 40,000 real jobs and creates 400,000 fantasy ones | Personal Finance | Finance
Planet Ed must be a wonderful place to reside. In this world, the Miliband reigns supreme. He has the power to slash energy bills by decree and conjure up hundreds of thousands of new jobs simply by issuing a press release.
When industries collapse, bills rise and real people lose their livelihoods, none of it really matters, because it didn’t happen on Planet Ed. Here, miracles are green and endless. Miliband is on a self-appointed mission building a “clean energy superpower”, and anyone who opposes him is simply cast aside.
In Miliband’s utopia, energy bills are set to fall by £300 per household during this Parliament, while jobs and prosperity multiply.
Back in the real world, of course, it’s a different story. By next April, our real world household energy bills will have rocketed £300 on his watch. And they will keep soaring.
This is making millions of Britons poorer while destroying our industrial base, because they can’t compete with countries where energy is so much cheaper than ours.
Ed Miliband’s green levies already account for roughly a quarter of our household energy costs, and that’s set to double by 2030.
He’s paying wind farms up to £1billion a year NOT to produce electricity because the grid can’t cope when it’s windy.
Miliband insists the Sizewell C nuclear plant will cost £38billion, but the true bill could reach £100billion, with consumers footing up to half of it.
The Office for Budget Responsibility says his net zero push will cost around £800billion, driven by grid upgrades and the loss of fuel duty as petrol cars vanish. And guess who’ll pay? Taxpayers, again.
Miliband’s obsession won’t just litter our countryside with solar panels, turbines and pylons, it will make Britain even more dependent on Chinese imports. Made with slave labour and coal-fired energy, and riddled with Beijing’s spy tech.
Meanwhile, he’s driving North Sea oil and gas out of existence with punitive taxes and red tape, wiping out tens of thousands of skilled jobs and billions in tax revenue. His response? To claim he’ll replace them with 400,000 new green jobs. Imagine that! Unfortunately, we’ll have to, because the jobs only exist in his head.
The new Clean Energy Jobs Plan is Miliband’s latest fantasy. It promises to train workers for 400,000 new green jobs by 2030, including those made redundant in the North Sea.
Yet right here, right now, at least 40,000 real oil and gas jobs are set to vanish in oil and gas, thanks to Ed Miliband.
Labour’s union allies aren’t swallowing it. Unite and the GMB warn that training schemes mean nothing unless we build the turbines and cables themselves.
We don’t. We won’t. You can’t train people for jobs that don’t exist.
Many of the jobs Miliband has destroyed are in Scotland, where the SNP has seen the reality of Ed.
Its energy spokesperson Graham Leadbitter called Miliband’s jobs announcement “pure fantasy”. He said the energy secretary is “costing energy jobs, not creating them”.
Leadbitter reckons Miliband has lost it: “At this stage I’m not sure even Ed Miliband believes Ed Miliband anymore.”
Not many people do. Not on this planet anyway.
However, on Planet Ed, jobs multiply, bills fall and prosperity blooms. Here on earth, energy costs rise, industry shrinks and the vulnerable shiver in the dark.
No wonder de’s been dubbed “the most dangerous man in Britain” but how can that be? Ed Miliband doesn’t live in the same country as the rest of us, he floats among the stars on Planet Ed. Unfortunately, we’ll all pay the price down here.
