Adrian Newey’s incredible net worth, massive salary and Lewis Hamilton regret | F1 | Sport
Incredible net worth
As F1’s leading tech chief for nearly 30 years, designing championship-winning cars for Williams, McLaren and Red Bull, it’s no surprise that Newey has amassed a considerable fortune.
Recent estimates place Newey’s net worth at around £40million, making him one of the richest figures in F1. This figure could rise following his appointment as Aston Martin team principal.
Massive salary
Following his move to Aston Martin, it was reported that Newey would pocket as much as £30m, including performance-related bonuses, with a basic wage of £20m per year.
It is believed that only Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen and Lando Norris earn more in driver terms.
That represented a massive jump from the reported £8m he pocketed at Red Bull each year.
However, it comes as little shock considering the lavish investment by Aston Martin’s billionaire owner Lawrence Stroll.
It remains to be seen if Newey will be given a pay rise following his ascension to the role of team principal.
Lewis Hamilton regret
Unless the seven-time world champion moves to Aston Martin, it seems Newey will never get to fulfil his long-standing dream of working with the Brit.
Appearing on the Beyond the Grid podcast two years ago, Newey was asked if he regretted not having Ferrari on his CV.
He said: “Emotionally, I guess, to a point, yes. But just as, for instance, working with Fernando [Alonso] and Lewis would have been fabulous.
“But it never happened. It’s just circumstance sometimes, that’s the way it is.”
