Liverpool chiefs have reportedly given their full backing to Arne Slot after star winger Mohamed Salah stated he is being thrown “under the bus” by his club at the weekend. Salah made his thoughts known after failing to make it onto the pitch during Liverpool’s 3-3 draw with Leeds on Saturday evening.

Liverpool and Salah have underwhelmed this season, with the Reds already appearing to be well out of the Premier League title race. The Egypt international missed just five minutes of his side’s opening 12 league games, but was dropped for the trip to West Ham at the end of last month as he remained on the bench all game. He played 45 minutes against Sunderland last Wednesday after coming on as a half-time substitute, but was then overlooked once again at Leeds as Slot kept him on the bench for the whole match. And Salah took aim at his club and his manager straight after the clash at Elland Road.

“I’m very disappointed, I’ve done so much for this club,” Salah said. “Everyone has seen it in recent years, especially last season. I don’t know why I’m sitting on the bench.

“It feels like the club is throwing me under the bus, that’s how I feel. I think it’s very clear that someone will blame me.

“The club promised me a lot in the summer, but I’ve been on the bench for three games. I can’t say they’ve kept their promises.

“I have said many times that I have a good relationship with the manager, but suddenly we don’t have a relationship anymore. I don’t know why.”

According to talkSPORT, Slot has the full backing of the Liverpool board over Salah’s outburst.

Liverpool chiefs think the Dutchman should have freedom to make tactical decisions and believe players should react to decisions in a professional manner.

There is a major doubt that Salah will travel to Italy ahead of his side’s Champions League clash with Inter Milan on Tuesday. And he may not feature in Saturday’s Premier League match against Brighton.

The 33-year-old is then due to report for international duty with Egypt immediately after the visit of the Seagulls ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations.

Salah has attracted interest from clubs in the Saudi Pro League in recent seasons, but signed a new contract with the Reds in April to extend his stay at Anfield until the summer of 2027. However, his words at the weekend have given teams in Saudi Arabia hope that they can signed him in January.
