A total of 32 matches will be played be played across four days on the weekend of Friday, January 9 to Monday, January 12. Crystal Palace, the reigning champions, will begin their campaign with a trip to non-league Macclesfield.
The match is one of eight games being shown on live TV, with BBC One set to air the fixture on Saturday, January 10. The match between Tottenham and Aston Villa on the same day will also be shown on BBC One. Both games will also be available to watch on the BBC Sport website and app, as well as the iPlayer service.
All televised matches, including the above, will also be shown live on TNT Sports following a rights deal agreed last year.
The first match of the weekend will see Nottingham Forest, who reached the semi-finals last season, take on Championship side Wrexham with TNT Sports set to provide live coverage of Friday, January 9.
Chelsea‘s home tie against Charlton Athletic will also be shown on TNT Sports on Saturday, January 10. Three games on Sunday, January 11 will be aired by the subscription network as well as one fixture on Monday, January 12.
The picks for Sunday include Derby County’s home game against Leeds United, Portsmouth’s match against Arsenal and Manchester United‘s meeting with Brighton and Hove Albion. Liverpool, meanwhile, will host Barnsley the following day.
There are usually a few big shocks in the FA Cup third round and this year’s competition is likely to be no different. Macclesfield will be hoping to spring a major surprise by knocking Palace out of the tournament on home soil.
Barnsley might fancy their chances against a struggling Liverpool side, while Portsmouth will be faced with the unenviable task of beating Premier League leaders and title favourites Arsenal.
