Tottenham player ratings vs Forest: Three 3/10s and five 4/10s as Spurs abysmal again | Football | Sport

Tottenham suffered a dismal 3-0 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League. An early fright for the visitors should have served as a warning sign when Ibrahim Sangare’s free header hit the left-hand post, followed by Guglielmo Vicario’s full-stretch save of Neco Williams’ subsequent shot.

Spurs handed their hosts the lead at the 28-minute mark. Archie Gray received the ball on the edge of his box from Vicario but instead of passing first time to Cristian Romero, the young player took a touch, unaware of Sangare closing in. The Forest player intercepted the ball, Vicario managed a good save as he ran into the box, but Callum Hudson-Odoi was there to poke home the rebound.

Hudson-Odoi then netted a second goal, albeit with a bit of luck, as his deep cross sailed over everyone and nestled into the far corner of the net.

The scoreline extended to three in the 79th minute when Hudson-Odoi glided past Porro and passed the ball to Sangare, who unleashed a fantastic, sliced shot from outside the box with the outside of his foot, which ricocheted off the right-hand post and into the net.

Here are our player ratings for Spurs from the defeat…

Guglielmo Vicario

He made a superb early save from Williams after Sangare’s header hit the post. He nearly saved Gray by denying the same Forest player for the goal, but the loose ball fell to Hudson-Odoi to score.

He was out of position for the same player’s overhit cross which curled into the back of the net. He couldn’t do much about Sangare’s fantastic effort.

He saved Hutchinson’s late free-kick. Despite making a few saves, he was beaten from distance twice. 4.

Pedro Porro

He appeared flustered at times in the first half and hasty in his play. He was out of position for Forest’s second goal, leaving Bentancur to deal with Hudson-Odoi.

Perhaps it wouldn’t have mattered because his attempt to stop the winger for the third goal was feeble. 3.

Cristian Romero

Spurs’ only real player with aggression in the backline but he also needs to lead them and that didn’t seem to happen. 5.

Micky van de Ven

His passing accuracy was off with short passes in both halves of the game that didn’t reach their intended target. He and the backline looked disorganised. 4.

Djed Spence

He seemed to sustain an injury that left him struggling to run freely in the first half. However, he seemed to recover in the second half and was livid when he was substituted for Davies, arguing and then throwing his jacket to the floor.

He hadn’t been particularly good though among a poor team performance but he will argue that at least he could have offered something going forward. 5.

Rodrigo Bentancur

His passing accuracy was wildly inconsistent, often overhitting even the simplest of passes. As the experienced midfielder, he needs to improve significantly but failed to provide Gray with a reliable option. 4.

Archie Gray

It was a challenging day for him. He called for the pass from Vicario only to fail to sweep it first time out to Romero as expected in that position.

He took a touch and was caught by Sangare. He did manage a shot on goal shortly after – Spurs’ only one on target for the day – before receiving a yellow card for a poorly timed tackle.

A day of lessons for him. 4.

Mohammed Kudus

A performance lacking any end product. He consistently ran into players instead of passing and showed little quality in his actions.

He even forgot to join the half-time huddle that the players have started doing. It was entirely in keeping with the day. 3.

Xavi Simons

He struggled to exert his usual influence on the game. The movement around him was poor, which didn’t help matters.

However, he worked hard and continued to track back late into the game. 5.

Randal Kolo Muani

He delivered a good early cross that Richarlison headed well off target. He seemed to be the only one making any forward progress as he consistently beat his man, although his end product also left much to be desired. 6.

Richarlison

His highlight was sending a header wide before the 15-minute mark. He never managed to hold up the ball, making it feel like playing with a wall up front. 3.

Subs

Lucas Bergvall

Despite appearing energetic, his performance was largely sloppy when he came on. 4.

Joao Palhinha

He made a few effective tackles but was never going to turn the game around. 5.

Ben Davies

Replaced the dissatisfied Spence and managed to keep his flank secure. 5.

Mathys Tel

Had little success down the left after being substituted in the final 10 minutes. N/A.

Brennan Johnson

Hardly had any contact with the ball against his former club, if at all. N/A.
