Fury vs Joshua fight date lined up with Gypsy King’s feelings clear | Boxing | Sport
Tyson Fury will fight Anthony Joshua in the ‘late’ summer of 2026 according to Frank Warren, if a deal between the two can be agreed. AJ has been on a collision course with the ‘Gypsy King’ for the majority of his professional boxing career, with Fury seemingly pouring water on a fight ever coming to fruition in January when he announced his retirement from the sport.
Off the back of consecutive losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2024, the 37-year-old took to Instagram at the turn of the year to upload a video of him saying: “Hi everybody, I’m going to make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing, it’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it.”
He added: “I’m going to end with this; Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody, see you on the other side,” seemingly alluding to feelings that he was robbed during his second clash with Usyk days before last Christmas, in which he was handed a unanimous decision loss after 12 gruelling rounds.
However, it now appears as though a potential fight may be on the horizon after all, potentially coming as soon as next August. Fury’s promoter, Warren, told Sky Sports News: “There’s been some talks going on, there’s nothing been signed yet, but Tyson’s indicated if it’s the right deal, he’ll definitely do it.
“I think it’s going in the right direction and hopefully we’ll get some news pretty soon as to what’s going to happen. I do believe it will happen.”
It comes as Joshua is set to take on YouTuber-turned-pugilist Jake Paul in the early hours of Saturday, December 20, in a bout that will be broadcast worldwide via Netflix. However, the ‘Problem Child’ has also made a brash claim that he is eyeing up a bout with Fury in the near future, potentially derailing Joshua’s plans.
Speaking during a pre-fight press conference: “I’m putting a stint in all of those plans. Don’t book anything, don’t arrange flights and hotels. I’m knocking this guy out, becoming the CEO of Matchroom Boxing and changing the plans. Then it’s going to be me vs Tyson Fury next year.”
