Kobbie Mainoo transfer agreement reached as Man Utd star told to ‘get out’ | Football | Sport
Alan Shearer and Paul Scholes have reached a transfer agreement on Kobbie Mainoo, endorsing his potential departure from Manchester United, because of the midfielder’s persistent struggle for regular playing time. Mainoo has yet to secure a single Premier League start this campaign and has been restricted to 11 substitute appearances under head coach Ruben Amorim.
Monday’s thrilling 4-4 draw with Bournemouth saw Mainoo enter from the substitutes’ bench, where the 20-year-old was greeted warmly by the Old Trafford faithful. The young midfielder has been strongly tipped for a departure from United in recent months. Chelsea, West Ham and Napoli are amongst the clubs keen on securing Mainoo’s signature in recent weeks, though reports suggest United have no intention of allowing the midfielder to depart Old Trafford in January despite the mounting speculation.
Shearer has now outlined why an exit might serve Mainoo’s interests best, and why such a transfer could equally benefit the Red Devils.
“Clearly the manager doesn’t fancy Kobbie Mainoo. Because if you can’t get into a team when they’re really struggling, then there’s an issue,” Shearer told Betfair. “And I guess it looks from the outside as if a move would be better off for all parties.
“This is not the first time we’ve seen that Manchester United players are not fitting into what the manager wants. And he hasn’t been afraid to get rid of them or let them go out on loan or sell them. And that looks as if it’s going to be the case for him.
“I don’t know, I’m not inside the club, I don’t know what his attitude’s like. But I guess looking from the outside, then it would be best for both parties if he could get out and play some football in January and onwards.
“Whether that’s on loan or whether that’s a permanent deal, then we’ll have to wait and see. But clearly, if you’re not playing, you have to look at the situation and get out.”
Amorim has been questioned about Mainoo’s limited opportunities throughout the campaign, and he acknowledged the reasoning behind his selection choices.
“I see him [Mainoo] as a starter like the other players,” Amorim said last month. “I just have to make a choice and then in the end, it’s not been Kobbie.
“In the future, I don’t know. Again, I always think the same thing with Casemiro. [He] was not playing and then he plays. I just want to win games. I don’t care who is playing.”
United icon Scholes echoed Shearer’s sentiments by suggesting that Mainoo might be sensible to depart Old Trafford, with the former midfielder also addressing Amorim’s comments.
“The kid [Mainoo] is being ruined, not being played in a team that can’t control a game of football,” Scholes posted on Instagram following Amorim’s recent comments about Mainoo.
“Hate seeing home grown players leave but it’s probably best for him now, enough is enough.”
