Fire breaks out at racing driver’s house as two rushed to hospital | Racing | Sport


A devastating blaze that tore through a sports star’s property has left two individuals hospitalised. Dramatic photographs showed a home belonging to NASCAR legend Denny Hamlin engulfed in flames as fire crews raced to the North Carolina address in the United States. According to The Athletic, approximately half the building was already ablaze when firefighters reached the scene.

David Toomey, chief of the Lucia Riverbend Fire Department, described the property as a “total loss”. Nevertheless, valuable vehicles stored in the garage alongside Hamlin’s racing memorabilia were successfully rescued by attending crews. Toomey said: “They had some really expensive cars in the garage and some racing memorabilia and stuff, so all that was saved. We were able to save all that and get it out so it wasn’t damaged.”

He revealed that between 10 and 15 fire departments attended the incident, owing to a shortage of fire hydrants in the woodland location, and both hospitalised individuals were outside the residence when emergency personnel arrived.

The 3,724-square-foot property was constructed in 2015 and registered to Hamlin’s property firm, Won One Real Estate, which developed the site following the acquisition of the land.

The four-bedroom, three-bathroom residence occupies 1.76 acres and is encircled by woodland.

Meanwhile, Hamlin stands as one of NASCAR’s finest since his 2006 debut.

Throughout his career, Hamlin has secured victory at the Daytona 500 on three occasions in 2016, 2019, and 2020, whilst commanding a net worth of £48million. Hamlin had an impressive season, finishing second in the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series standings.

He was just four points behind champion Kyle Larson, with six race victories and 14 top-five finishes to his name.

In addition to his racing career, Hamlin co-owns the 23XI Racing NASCAR team alongside NBA legend Michael Jordan.
