Eon Next hands customers £185 boost in January | Personal Finance | Finance
E.ON Next is handing customers a £185 boost in January with a fixed tariff deal that undercuts the energy price cap.
The major energy supplier has announced new lower prices to help households kick-start their New Year savings and secure price certainty into 2026 with its Next Fixed 18-month tariff. The fixed deal is priced at £1,573 (previously £1,575) for a typical household using gas and electricity, with a £50 per fuel exit fee. E.ON said the tariff is now the cheapest on the market and offers savings of £185 against Ofgem’s energy price cap which is set at £1,758 for a typical household in England, Wales and Scotland on a standard variable tariff between January 1 and March 31, 2026.
Ofgem’s price cap only sets the maximum rate per unit and standing charge that customers can be charged by suppliers when they’re not on a fixed tariff, but not the total bill. So ultimately, those who use more energy pay more.
But by opting for E.ON’s fixed tariff, households can fix their energy rates for two winters, giving peace of mind that the price won’t change for the duration of the 18-month deal.
E.ON said: “The cheapest fix applies to Next Fixed 18m v27 and Next Fixed 24m v37, based on dual fuel customers with standard meters, using average annual consumption of 2,700 kWh of electricity and 11,500kWh of gas, at an average for all 14 regions, paying by Direct Debit.
“It is compared against standard and fixed term tariffs (excluding tariffs with bundled products or add-ons) that are publicly available, as of 9am, December 30, 2025.
“Availability of the tariff is subject to eligibility criteria, and savings are not guaranteed as they depend on individual usage and meter type.”
For those who want to fix their energy bills for longer than 18 months, E.ON Next has a fixed 24-month tariff which is now also the cheapest in its tenure at £1,640 (previously £1,658) for a typical household, with a £100 per fuel exit fee. With this deal, households can bag savings of £118 against Ofgem’s price cap.
