Chelsea next manager decision as Liam Rosenior and Cesc Fabregas truth emerges | Football | Sport

Cesc Fabregas is not being considered for the Chelsea manager’s position, according to reports. The Spaniard has inevitably been mentioned in connection with the vacancy at Stamford Bridge due to his history with the club, but the Como manager is not currently under consideration, according to football.london.

Similarly, Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi is not in the frame despite reports suggesting otherwise, whilst club legend John Terry is also not amongst the candidates. Strasbourg manager Liam Rosenior, however, has emerged as one of the early frontrunners to succeed Enzo Maresca. The report states that Chelsea‘s leadership have been extremely impressed with the 41-year-old’s achievements since assuming control at sister club Strasbourg.

BlueCo, Chelsea’s ownership group, also controls the Ligue 1 side. Rosenior steered them to seventh place in his debut campaign and is once again competing for European qualification this term.

The close relationship between the two clubs positions Rosenior as a natural candidate to take over from Maresca, whose tenure at the club concluded on Thursday.

Chelsea have secured just one victory in their previous seven Premier League fixtures and issued a statement confirming the separation from the Italian manager.

The club statement read: “Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company. During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup.

“Those achievements will remain an important part of the club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the club.

“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. We wish Enzo well for the future.”

It has recently come to light that Maresca had disagreements with Chelsea’s medical department.

The former head coach would sometimes select players contrary to the department’s recommendations, creating tensions within the club.

Furthermore, there had been discussions between Maresca’s representatives and Manchester City, following speculation that Pep Guardiola might leave in the summer.

Maresca properly informed Chelsea of this communication, as stipulated in his contract, but figures at the west London club regarded it as an unwanted distraction during a crucial campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Amid all the speculation about his position, Maresca’s rapport with the media also appeared to break down.
