Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea can pick up six bargains if West Ham and Wolves relegated | Football | Sport
The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea could reap the benefits of West Ham United and Wolves potentially being relegated from the Premier League. Both clubs are in serious trouble and have not been helped by the newly-promoted sides doing better than expected. They faced each other on Saturday, with Wolves running out 3-0 winners to deepen the woes of the Hammers.
It marked Wolves’ first league victory of the campaign, having gone through the first half of the season without beating a single team. However, it will take a miracle for them to avoid relegation at the end of the season. West Ham, meanwhile, are four points adrift of safety and must improve quickly to steer clear of the drop zone. If they do go down, some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs may be able to pick up some bargains in the summer transfer window.
Express Sport takes a look at six players who are likely to be snapped up in the event of relegation…
West Ham
Jarrod Bowen
The obvious one for the Hammers would be Bowen, who is far too good to be playing Championship football next season.
A fully-fledged England international, big clubs will be lining up to secure his signature if the current campaign ends in relegation.
Lucas Paqueta
While he is a loose cannon at times, the Brazilian playmaker is undoubtedly a good player and boasts plenty of qualities that would be useful to bigger clubs.
A move abroad would perhaps seem more likely than a Premier League return, but don’t expect top teams to turn their noses up if they’re given the chance to sign him.
El Hadji Malick Diouf
The left-back, who is currently representing Senegal at the Africa Cup of Nations, has been a rare shining light for the Hammers this season.
He will undoubtedly be in high demand if they are relegated, given his potential for growth at just 21 and the possibility of a cut-price deal.
Wolves
Joao Gomes
There is little to no chance that Wolves will be able to keep Gomes if they are consigned to the Championship. The midfielder, who represents Brazil internationally, would need a lot of convincing to spend at least one season in England’s second tier.
At just 24 years of age, he could be a decent signing for a big club looking for a midfielder with plenty of potential and resale value.
Andre
Another young midfielder who plays for Brazil, there will be plenty of interest in Andre if Wolves are relegated at the end of the season.
He is yet to score this season but has brought plenty to the table in a desperately poor side, which could earn him a decent move in the summer.
Mateus Mane
Mane was the star of the show for Wolves against West Ham and more performances like that will certainly pique the interest of some bigger teams.
He was only properly introduced by Rob Edwards a couple of weeks ago and has already scored and grabbed two assists. More of the same and he won’t be at Molineux much longer.
