Ruben Amorim breaks cover as sacked Man Utd boss spotted smiling | Football | Sport

Ruben Amorim has been spotted grinning broadly following his dismissal from Manchester United. The club confirmed on Monday morning that Amorim had been relieved of his duties after just 14 months at the helm. The Portuguese manager had publicly criticised the board during his post-match media duties following the Leeds draw, suggesting others ought to concentrate on their own responsibilities amid mounting pressure. Within 24 hours of that press conference, the 40-year-old was shown the door.

By Monday afternoon, hours after the official announcement, Amorim was photographed beaming as he departed his Cheshire home with his wife, Maria Joao Diogo. Despite losing his position at Old Trafford, the Portuguese boss appeared remarkably cheerful in the snowy conditions.

It is believed Amorim ventured out for a stroll and engaged cordially with waiting photographers.

The Daily Mail also claim that staff at Carrington, United’s training ground complex, were shocked when they spotted Amorim and his coaching staff smiling and joking after they had been informed of his sacking.

The official club statement announcing Amorim’s exit read: “Ruben Amorim has departed his role as head coach of Manchester United.

“Ruben was appointed in November 2024 and led the team to a UEFA Europa League Final in Bilbao in May. With Manchester United sitting sixth in the Premier League, the club’s leadership has reluctantly made the decision that it is the right time to make a change. This will give the team the best opportunity of the highest possible Premier League finish.

“The club would like to thank Ruben for his contribution to the club and wishes him well for the future. Darren Fletcher will take charge of the team against Burnley on Wednesday.”

Amorim, who joined from Sporting CP in November 2024, presided over United’s most dismal season in 51 years, culminating in a loss to Tottenham in the Europa League final.

His tenure in the Premier League was marked by the poorest win ratio (32 per cent), the highest average goals conceded per game (1.53), and the lowest clean sheet percentage (15%) of any United manager on record.
