‘Venezuela first’ MAGA rages at Trump over Maduro capture in Venezuela | World | News

A number of supporters and former supporters of Donald Trump have hit out at his move in Venezuela.

US President Donald Trump has divided his MAGA (Make America Great Again) base after capturing Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro.

Maduro was captured and taken to the US before being charged with four US federal criminal counts, including “narco-terrorism” conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy and possession of machine guns and destructive devices.

The Venezuelan dictator said he was illegally “kidnapped” and pleaded not guilty.”

Trump has since threatened to control Venezuelan oil “indefinitely” while claiming the US is now “in charge” of the country.

However, the attempt to quash Maduro’s regime and prevent alleged drug trafficking from Venezuela to the US has sparked anger among Trump’s MAGA base.

Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly appeared to hit out at other American conservatives for supporting the capture. She said Fox New’s supportive coverage was “was all rah-rah cheerleading.”

Controversial commentator Tucker Carlson, previously a supporter of Trump, said the capture of Maduro was the US “behaving like an empire.”

Meanwhile, opponents of Trump have also taken aim at the President.

The Lincoln Project, a Republican group that opposes Trump, said: “We are going to run Venezuela”

“Is this the “America First” you voted for MAGA?”

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a former supporter of Trump who has since clashed with the President, said: “Americans’ disgust with our own government’s never ending military aggression and support of foreign wars is justified because we are forced to pay for it and both parties, Republicans and Democrats, always keep the Washington military machine funded and going.

“This is what many in MAGA thought they voted to end. Boy were we wrong.”

Left wing MP Jeremy Corbyn, a longstanding critic of Trump, said: “It’s not complicated: The United States’ invasion of Venezuela is a total violation of all aspects of international law. Venezuela first, who’s next?”
