ITV showing ‘worst film of all time’ with three A-listers tonight | Films | Entertainment

Despite its star-studded cast, a superhero film inspired by a classic 1960s TV series has been dubbed ‘the worst movie of all time’ by viewers.

The film, titled ‘The Avengers’, may initially conjure images of the Marvel superhero saga, but it’s an entirely different kettle of fish.

The plot revolves around the villainous Sir August de Wynter (Sean Connery), who devises a method to control the weather and wield it as a weapon against London and the world.

Secret agents John Steed (Ralph Fiennes) and Emma Peel (Uma Thurman) are hot on his trail, but their mission is complicated when Peel becomes a suspect in the sabotage of a government scientific experiment.

As Steed and Peel strive to clear her name, they must also thwart de Wynter’s nefarious plans.

Despite boasting a stellar line-up including award-winning actors Sean Connery, Ralph Fiennes, and Uma Thurman, the film falls short of expectations according to fan reviews.

On Rotten Tomatoes, critics were scathing in their assessments. One reviewer fumed: “It was like watching the director, producer and writers take a long, big shit all over my beloved British mod series. Possibly the worst movie of all times.”, reports <a href=”https://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/superhero-film-three-huge-stars-36510972″ rel=”Follow” target=”_self”>the Mirror</a>.

Another said: “IT IS THE WORST MOVIE THAT HAS EVER BEEN MADE!”.

A third wrote: “A movie has to be pretty bad for me to give it one star. I’m not one of those people who either loves or hates everything, and everything is either five or one stars. (I hate those people though). Most movies are 2,3, or 4 stars, unless they really and truly stand out. This movie deserves its one star,”.

A fourth viewer said: “Total misfire. The TV series it’s based on is still well regarded. This mess is done in by a terrible script, awful pacing, and poor casting decisions. Warner Bros. released this did the year after “Batman and Robin. ” Yuck.”

Another simply added: “One of the worst movie I’ve ever seen!”.

Some viewers couldn’t even make it through to the end, with one admitting: “I chanced upon a streaming service that allowed me to watch this 1998 The Avengers starring Fiennes, Thurman, and Connery. Mid-way I stopped watching it.

“The story was lame, the acting much too contrived, and the plot was utterly incoherent and forgettable.”

Another added: “I had to turn it off , seems from the review a lot of people did . The acting and pacing was to uncomfortable for me gave me a headache.”

A third posted: “Proof that the wrong actors with the wrong script in a film made by the wrong people is inevitably doomed to fail, and what a disappointment. As a super fan of the classic ’60’s British TV show, this film is an abomination and an insult to fans of the original program. Shameful.”

The Avengers airs on ITV4 on Saturday 10 January at 5.05pm.
