‘Horror master’s’ twisted remake of iconic classic | Films | Entertainment
The release of a new trailer for the upcoming horror remake of The Mummy has sent fans into a whirlwind of excitement.
This audacious and twisted retelling of the classic tale is already earning its ‘twisted’ label, with a Netflix star among its impressive cast.
Lee Cronin, known for his work on Evil Dead Rise featuring Stranger Things’ Nell Fisher and 2019’s The Hole in the Ground, is at the helm as both writer and director.
According to the synopsis, the plot revolves around a journalist’s young daughter who vanishes in the desert.
Eight years later, her unexpected return transforms a joyous reunion into a living nightmare.
This isn’t the first time the iconic franchise has undergone a transformation. The original series kicked off in 1932, spawning several sequels.
In 1959, Hammer Films launched their own series with the legendary Christopher Lee as The Mummy, reports the Mirror.

The franchise is perhaps best remembered for the Stephen Sommers series that began in 1999, starring Brendan Fraser in the heroic lead role. It inspired two sequels and a spin-off, The Scorpion King, featuring Dwayne Johnson.
Tom Cruise joined forces with Russell Crowe for a more recent franchise reboot. The 2017 release of The Mummy was intended to launch a Dark Universe franchise featuring Universal Pictures’ classic monsters, akin to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This latest iteration sees Cronin collaborating with Blumhouse Productions, the studio behind films such as Weapons, promising ‘a terrifying new version’. Horror enthusiasts should be delighted by the emphasis on scares over action sequences.
Audiences have now been treated to their first glimpse of the film through a newly released trailer. The footage reveals an unsettling montage featuring shadowy mysterious figures and a corpse reanimating within a coffin.
The film features Jack Reynor in a role yet to be disclosed. The Irish actor has previously starred in Netflix’s limited series The Perfect Couple, alongside appearances in The Peripheral and Midsommar.
Joining him are Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón.
Numerous fans have responded enthusiastically to the trailer, expressing their anticipation for the film’s debut. One viewer commented: “Finally! I always believed instead of remaking the epic adventure movie again, they should take it back to it’s roots as a supernatural horror movie like the original 1932 version.”
Another fan enthused: “This is the Mummy movie I’ve been waiting for. The teaser looks amazing. Mummy movies should be horror movies, not action movies.”
Meanwhile, a third chimed in with: “Looks amazing! ! ! Can’t wait, Lee Cronin is a modern horror master!”
