When you’re expecting a baby, choosing a name is one of the most important and exciting parts of the process. Parents often look for unique names that set their baby up for success.

If you’re stuck on what to name your baby, there’s no school like the old school. Vintage names are trending, and some classic names are timeless. Experts at PR Superstar collected the top 100 baby girl names and top 100 baby boy names registered in the UK in 1914, as published by the Office of National Statistics. Next, the team obtained the most recent complete ONS baby-name dataset for 2024 and cross-referenced the two to find the names that are still going strong a century on.

In first place is Arthur. In 2024, 3,368 babies were given this name. It remains a popular name due to its long history and solid traditional sound.

George came in second place with 3,257 births. Once a common name in early 20th-century England, it remains appealing due to its simplicity and long-standing royal associations.

The first girl’s name on the list in third place is Amelia, with 2,448 babies being named this in 2024.  Its soft, feminine sound has been popular since 1914.

Henry was fourth with 2,360 births. Traditional, familiar and easy to pronounce, this name is a strong choice.

Lily ranked fifth in the list with 2,185 babies. Floral names are timeless, and Lily’s popularity reflects the ongoing appeal of short, gentle names that feel both vintage and modern.

In ninth place is Elsie, a gentle and soft girl’s name. In 2024  1,727 babies were named Elsie.
