Trump rages at NATO with fresh Greenland threat as ‘Denmark rushes in troops’ | World | News
Donald Trump has repeated once again he wants the US to take over Greenland. Over the last few days, the US President has reignited the talk about acquiring Greenland with several European leaders strongly responding against it.
In a new message shared on Truth Social on Wednesday, Me Trump said: “The United States needs Greenland for the purpose of National Security. It is vital for the Golden Dome that we are building. NATO should be leading the way for us to get it. IF WE DON’T, RUSSIA OR CHINA WILL, AND THAT IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN! Militarily, without the vast power of the United States, much of which I built during my first term, and am now bringing to a new and even higher level, NATO would not be an effective force or deterrent – Not even close! They know that, and so do I.
NATO becomes far more formidable and effective with Greenland in the hands of the UNITED STATES. Anything less than that is unacceptable. Thank you for your attention to this matter! President DJT”
It comes as Denmark is reportedly beginning to reinforce its military presence in Greenland by sending equipment and advance troops, according to reporting from the Danish broadcaster DR.
The advance units are tasked with preparing infrastructure and logistics so the island can later receive a larger deployment from the Danish army and other defense branches.
As the talks over acquring the island intensifies, French President Emmanuel Macron warned that any threat to the sovereignty of a European ally would have far-reaching and unprecedented consequences, amid rising tensions over Greenland.
“If the sovereignty of a European country and ally were to be affected, the knock-on effects would be unprecedented,” Macron said, according to government spokesperson Maud Bregeon.
He stressed that France was closely monitoring the situation and would stand “in full solidarity” with Denmark.
