Bridgerton boss teases spin-off news with ‘existing characters’ | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
The fourth season of Bridgerton is nearly upon us, with Netflix hosting a glamorous premiere ceremony and episode one livestream for viewers last night (January 14). Despite a few hiccups during the livestream, fans were treated to an exciting announcement that signals a fresh chapter in the Shondaland period drama sensation, reports the Mirror.
Bridgerton’s executive producer and director, Tom Verica, hinted at the arrival of another spin-off soon. In a chat with Deadline, Verica shared: “With Queen Charlotte, we thoroughly enjoyed that experience. It was a smaller look at a particular love story that’s spanned over those episodes and I think we caught something that people really responded to.”
He continued: “So, we are in talks of some other projects, hopefully, something, some news will be coming out at some point, hopefully.”
When probed for more information, Verica remained tight-lipped but did offer a tantalising hint: “I will say this, there have been characters that you’ve met before, ones that you are invested in.”
Verica was quick to add: “But again, we’re talking about different possibilities and the great thing about having a cast this size is that there’s a lot of stories to dive into.”
He concluded by saying: “But the particular ones we’re talking about, it’s going to be really enjoyable.”
Numerous Bridgerton enthusiasts responded beneath the Deadline video shared on X (formerly Twitter): “A spin-off of The Polin is a guaranteed success. Shondaland lines its pockets with enough money to spend in its next life, and we get to enjoy our favorite couple and break the internet. A win-win situation, Tom. Just think about it [sic].”
Another viewer observed: “I’m only interested in a Kate and Anthony spinoff but since they always make the wrong move they’ll probably make a Featherington spinoff as if the show doesn’t already revolve around them.”
Whilst a third pleaded: “#Kanthony SpinOff, please! ! ! ! ! I’m begging. Second SpinOff: a Violet and Edmund SpinOff.”
A fourth supporter remarked: “Let’s do the Violet / Edmund / Portia spinoff so we don’t look like clowns anymore.”
Another chimed in: “You can never go wrong with an Anthony and Kate Bridgerton spinoff. The people having been asking for Jonathan Bailey and Simone Ashley for years. @netflix @bridgerton.”
Devotees will need to remain patient to discover what unfolds. Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story launched in 2023 to tremendous acclaim from both viewers and critics.
The limited drama series received multiple award nominations and secured a Primetime Emmy, whilst maintaining a 90 per cent fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Bridgerton, adapted from the best-selling novels by Julia Quinn, has a plethora of content and characters to explore.
A potential spin-off featuring Violet (Ruth Gemmell) and Edmund Bridgerton (Rupert Evans) could draw from Quinn’s novella Violent in Bloom, part of The Bridgertons: Happily Ever After book.
Interestingly, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgeton Story’ was penned by producer Shonda Rimes, with the creator of Grey’s Anatomy and Quinn writing a companion novel following the show’s release. Given the rich tapestry of characters and world built by the Netflix series, any spin-offs could be entirely original, not adapted from existing source material.
For now, Bridgerton enthusiasts can eagerly anticipate season four, inspired by the third novel An Offer From A Gentleman. The spotlight will be on the love story between Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) and maid Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha), whose lives are forever altered after a chance meeting at Violet’s masquerade ball.
Furthermore, Netflix has renewed Bridgerton for seasons five and six, promising more captivating drama to come.
Bridgerton season 4, part 1 airs on Netflix on January 29, with part 2 dropping on February 26
