Most popular dog and cat names in UK as same choice tops both list
When you get a pet, they truly become part of the family. And you want to give them the perfect name when you introduce them to your home – one that fits their personality.
Here in the UK, some pet names are more popular than others. And now, the top names for our dogs and cats have been shared in new research. Interestingly, the most commonly chosen name for both dogs and cats is the same, and it’s been very popular for many years.
According to a new study by the pet insurance team at Go.Compare, Luna is the nation’s most popular pet name. This is the fifth year in a row it has topped the list when it comes to cats, and this year, it overtook Bella as the most popular dog name.
Other names that features in both lists are Teddy and Milo.
Willow has entered the top 10 in the dog names list for the first time, just nudging out Charlie and joining Daisy and Poppy as another nature-inspired monikers.
And with the name Lola falling from sixth to seventh place, it could be a sign that some once-popular options are not as common as they were.
Many of the cat names on the list are influenced by pop culture and film, such as Loki from the Avengers franchise, and Simba and Nala from The Lion King.
Rhys Jones, Go.Compare pet insurance spokesperson, said: “Pet owners clearly know what they like, and Luna and Bella have now been among the UK’s most popular pet names for several years in a row.
“While there are some small shifts year on year, the overall lack of movement suggests people are increasingly opting for old familiar favourites when naming their pets.”
