Ben Davies was given oxygen and stretchered off the pitch during the first half of Tottenham’s match against West Ham, following a collision with Jarrod Bowen. The 32-year-old defender seemed to have injured his left leg. Davies was carried off and replaced by Djed Spence. The extent of his injury is yet to be determined, with an update expected from Thomas Frank after the game.

The Welsh international, whose contract in north London expires at the end of this season, has only recently returned to play after a prolonged absence due to injury. But he had his leg in a brace after physios rushed onto the pitch following an attempt to tackle Bowen.

To make matters worse for the full-back, he was also shown a yellow card by referee Jarred Gillett as he left the pitch.

Davies, 32, sustained a hamstring injury in October, causing him to miss five crucial matches against Aston Villa, Everton, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Arsenal.

He rejoined the squad towards the end of November, featuring on the bench in a 2-1 loss to Fulham. Davies made his first appearance of the season in the Champions League, coming on as a substitute.

In a commanding 3-0 victory over Slavia Praha, Davies was given around 20 minutes of playtime towards the end of the match. A few days later, he was again brought on as a substitute in a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Crysencio Summerville, one of the top performers in the first half, saw his deflected strike fly past Guglielmo Vicario only moments before Davies’ injury.

The injury may also have World Cup ramifications, with Davies previously set to captain Wales in North America this summer if they make it to the competition.

Wales first face Bosnia and Herzegovina in the play-off semi-finals in March, before taking on either Italy or Northern Ireland for a place in the tournament.
