Full list of 533 conditions that qualify for weekly £187 DWP payment | Personal Finance | Finance

The DWP has issued a full list of 533 conditions which could qualify you for a £187 a week payment. Personal Independence Payments (PIP) are a benefit given out to people who need help with extra living costs due to a long-term physical or mental health condition or disability, which can affect their ability to complete everyday tasks.

There are two parts to PIP, the daily living part and the mobility part and both of these has a lower and a higher weekly rate, depending on the severity of your condition. Daily living starts at £73.90 for the lower rate, rising to £110.40 for higher, while mobility is £29.20 for the lower, rising to £77.05 for higher. It means you could get as much as £187.45 if you were eligible for the higher element of both parts.

Some news reports have claimed that the DWP has issued ‘the full list’ of conditions which make you eligible for the benefit, but this is a misnomer, as there is no set restriction on what could make you eligible based on conditions themselves.

Instead, PIP is given out based on a discretionary assessment to determine if a condition affects your daily living, or daily mobility.

As such, almost any condition in theory could lead to an award if it can be shown that it meets the criteria of affecting your daily life or mobility.

But, just because your condition is listed here, it doesn’t mean that you will definitely be able to claim. According to Benefits And Work, PIP claims for Rheumatoid Arthritis have a 72% success rate, while claims for Type 1 Diabetes are just 27%. It depends how the condition affects you specifically.

The DWP has issued a list of all of the conditions for which at least one successful PIP claim has been made as of February 2025, and it is extensive, but still not necessarily exhaustive (see below), comprising some 533 conditions at present.

Everything from allergies and ADHD to whiplash injury, autism and cancer to Down’s Syndrome, Parkinson’s and cardiac issues and carpal tunnel syndrome has resulted in at least one successful claim for at least one element of PIP.

If successful, the money is paid every four weeks and does not affect your tax liability (ie will not push you into paying tax if you’re a state pensioner with no other income).

The criteria the DWP uses are as follows:

You might get daily living payments from PIP if you need help with:

  • managing your medicines or treatments

  • socialising and being around other people

  • talking, listening and understanding

  • Mobility part
You might get the mobility part of PIP if you need help with:
