Best supermarket for meal deals named by shoppers — it’s not Tesco
We all love the option of grabbing a bargain while picking up a quick and hearty meal. Brits have voted for their favourite supermarket meal deal, and in a surprise twist Tesco isn’t the winner.
Supermarkets all offer their own meal deals, which can range from family pizza nights to romantic meals in for two. The Good Housekeeping 2026 Food Awards has returned, and with it they asked 1,600 people to rank their favourite supermarket offerings. One award was for the Best Meal Deal, as one supermarket reigned supreme.
One shopper told the publication: “M&S Dine-In deals are the best! The pizza deal is brilliant for families. The stir-fry deal beats standing in the kitchen chopping veg.
“The pasta deal is great for weeknights, and the gastro pub range can’t be beaten for a weekend treat. Not to mention the weekly offers like the family roast or slow-cooker dine-in where you can select mains and sides to suit.
“And don’t even get me started on Valentine’s or Mother’s Day! Excellent value throughout.”
Tesco came as a runner-up for the Best Meal Deal award. The two supermarkets also came out on top when it came to the award for Best Dinner for Tonight. Marks and Spencer again won when it came to ready meals for one.
Shoppers praised the supermarket for its choice and wide variety. One shared: “The chicken arrabbiata is my go-to ready meal,” while another praised M&S for its “special treats and nibbles for entertaining”.
Tesco came in the runner-up spot again. Overall, the Best Supermaket award went to Aldi as shoppers enthused over the affordability and high-quality produce. Sainsbury’s came in second.
Tesco did manage to pick up an award as they are the best for wine, spirits and beer, according to those voting.
