Jessica Pegula’s billionaire dad can’t watch her play as ‘issues in the family’ revealed | Tennis | Sport
Jessica Pegula‘s father has claimed that he isn’t able to watch her play tennis, which he says has caused ‘issues in the family’. She is poised to inherit the fortune of her father, Terry, after he managed to hit the big time via investments in fracking. He also owns the Buffalo Bills and is estimated to be worth around £6.8billion.
Terry has been through a busy few weeks after the Bills were dumped out of the NFL playoffs. They recently sacked head coach Sean McDermott in a surprise development, meaning they are on the lookout for a new leader. Earlier this week, Terry faced up to journalists to discuss the turmoil at the Bills in a rare media appearance.
He wasn’t afraid to give his thoughts on some difficult topics, including the Bills’ painful loss to the Denver Broncos or why the team decided to fire McDermott. However, in a more subdued moment, he also spoke about his daughter and their family dynamic.
Asked if he would be meeting with the media more frequently from now on, Terry said: “I think that’s a possibility in the future. I can’t even go watch my daughter play tennis.
“She’s got to No. 3 in the world, and I’ve been to like two of her matches in the last four years. We have issues in the family, but I can see me being more available in the future.”
Jessica recently spoke about her relationship with Terry, explaining that he played a key role in shaping her career in spite of his various business ventures.
During an appearance on the Tennis Insider Club, she said: “I mean, my dad was definitely more of the crazy one and he definitely put pressure on me, but also, I wanted it and I liked it.
“Like, I didn’t mind it. It wasn’t like I was fighting him on it or like miserable or whatever. I really wanted to play tennis. I loved going to my tennis lessons, I loved going to my academy.
“That was what I wanted to do. And I think they just saw that and they, they knew like they could push me a little bit. So, I felt like they did a good job of that at that age.
“My older sister played tennis. She played in college, in high school. I just started taking lessons after school. At our tennis club, my parents played for fun and where my older sister trained. That’s really kind of how I started.”
