Santander closing 18 UK branches in 2026 as change made to 52 – full list | Personal Finance | Finance
Santander is closing 18 of its bank branches across the UK this year, while 52 of its locations have undergone some major changes.
The impending closures come after the bank closed 95 of its branches in 2025 and cut services at others as more customers move towards online and mobile banking. Santander conducted a major review of its branches in 2021 and said since then, many of its customers are choosing to use mobile, online and telephone banking, while branches are being used less frequently. The review prompted changes to be made across the bank’s branch network, with 36 sites now operating on reduced hours, while 18 have been made ‘counter-free’.
The reduced opening hours at 36 branches were rolled out from June 30, 2025, with the affected sites now open on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 9.30am until 3pm.
Meanwhile, the change to ‘counter-free’ was rolled out in phases across 18 branches from June 16, 2025, to create “more space and time” for branch teams to help customers.
As for the bank closures, this began on June 16, 2025 and is being carried out in phases. A total of 95 Santander branches closed in 2026, and a further 18 are due to close this year, with exact dates yet to be confirmed.
Santander said: “We’re closing some of our branches. This will happen in phases, starting from 16 June 2025. If you prefer to bank with us in person, there will still be ways to do this after these branches close.
“We’re also introducing Community Bankers. They will visit spaces in your local area each week, such as libraries and community halls, to help you with your banking.
“If you have any questions, or need our help, please call our dedicated helpline on 0330 678 2469. Lines are open Monday to Sunday 8am-6pm. You can also call this number to book a branch appointment or register for Online, Mobile and Telephone Banking.”
