Australian Open star Alex De Minaur has revealed he avoided being in hot water with his future wife, Katie Boulter, after an interview with Jim Courier in which the tennis legend suggested he would become a 49% shareholder in the relationship, once they were married.
Since then, Boulter has taken to captioning her photographs with “51%”. Speaking following a dominant 6-4, 6-1, 6-1 win over Alexander Bublik, De Minaur was more than happy to talk up his relationship with the British tennis ace.
“No, it’s all chilled!” he told Courier after the match. “We’ve got a great relationship. She trusts me and trusts my judgement – at least, that’s what I believe!
“And you know she’s actually currently on a flight to London. She was telling me she was actually able to watch the match on the plane, so she’s a great one, and really good mate, sweet – don’t worry!”
De Minaur continued to play into the light-hearted joke by signing a camera with “49%” on his way off the court.
De Minaur and Boulter have been in a relationship for a number of years and announced their engagement in late 2024 as Boulter took to Instagram to show off her ring. The pair are due to be married later this year, and following an earlier win in Australia, it became a post-match talking point.
Courier said: “You’ve already locked in a huge win this year – you’re getting married at some point this year, congratulations to you and Katie. How involved are you planning to be in this wedding planning? Or are you going to leave it to Katie?”
De Minaur replied: “Are you doubting me, Jim?” To which Courier offered: “I’m definitely doubting you.”
The 26-year-old De Minaur then asked: “No, this is like a 50/50 relationship, right?”

Courier replied: “You’ve not been married. You don’t know. You’re about to become a 49% shareholder of a really great company.”
“Honestly, the fact that we’re both tennis players and we’ve both got quite a busy schedule, we are doing as much as we can together,” De Minaur said.
“Yeah, I’ve been involved so far in some of the decisions – I’m sure when it comes to details of like napkins and flowers and decoration purposes – that’s not my forte, I’ll leave that to Katie.”
De Minaur will be back on court on Tuesday in a quarter-final clash against top seed Carlos Alcaraz. The home favourite is hoping to come out firing against the Spaniard.
“Yeah, the last two matches I’ve played I’ve hit the ball really well, I’m super pleased with my level,” he said.
“I’m doing everything I want on the court and yeah, I’m excited for the next one. That’s going to be a big one. I’m going to have to come out here guns blazing and I’m excited for a battle against Carlitos.
