‘Masterpiece’ comedy starring two-time Oscar winner just added to Netflix | Films | Entertainment
A “masterpiece” comedy drama hailed by fans as a “masterpiece” is streaming now on Netflix. The Darjeeling Limited (2007) tells the story of three brothers, Francis, Peter, and Jack (played by Owen Wilson, two-time Oscar winner Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman), who are estranged after their father’s death but agree to meet in India for a “spiritual” train journey.
Waris Ahluwalia, Amara Karan, Wallace Wolodarsky, Barbet Schroeder, and Anjelica Huston also star, with cameos from Natalie Portman, Camilla Rutherford, Irrfan Khan, and Bill Murray. The film was directed by Wes Anderson, who co-wrote it with Roman Coppola and Schwartzman.
The Darjeeling Limited, which was Anderson’s fifth feature, is praised for its unconventional narrative and the signature stylistic flourishes from Anderson that have seen him become one of the most recognisable auteurs of modern cinema.
Fans have flocked to IMDb to shower the film with praise, with one writing: “Words go a long way, but they cannot do justice to this quadruple masterpiece that pleases eyes, ears, mind and soul alike.”
“Lovingly designed, spectacularly lit and superbly acted, “The Darjeeling Limited” is built to last,” they added. “Even before the closing credits started rolling, I wanted to see it all over again, and I will.”
Another said The Darjeeling Limited a “film that that ranks as a great Wes Anderson movie”. “It’s funny and touching without being syrupy,” they added. “It reminded me of Little Miss Sunshine and is just as good.”

A third said: “There’s no crazy art direction here, but honestly, with how naturally beautiful India and its architecture is, this is one Anderson film where it isn’t needed.
“Some of the best scenes in the movie are just watching the leads experience the culture and trying out different customs for themselves, almost like a tour video with a plot.”
They added: “I also appreciate the film taking these scenes seriously and depicting them respectfully and tactfully”.
Anderson’s fifth feature film has a 15 certificate and contains strong language and moderate sex references.
The Darjeeling Limited is streaming now on Netflix.
