Eligible households are being urged to make a phone call by the end of next week to claim a £150 discount off their energy bills.
The discount comes as part of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero’s (DESNZ) Warm Home Discount Scheme, which provides low-income homes with £150 off their electricity bill. The discount is applied to bills automatically by energy suppliers taking part in the scheme, rather than being paid straight into your bank account, and it’s available to households in England, Wales and Scotland.
Most people who qualify should have received a letter between late October 2025 and early January 2026 confirming their eligibility. If you haven’t received your letter and think you’re eligible, or need to provide more information, you need to call the helpline by next Friday.
The deadline is now just over a week away and the DESNZ has issued a warning to remind households who think they’re eligible for the £150 discount to make a phone call.
The DESNZ said: “96% of Warm Home Discount recipients in England and Wales will receive the rebate automatically this winter (2025/2026).
“However, a small number will need to phone the helpline number, which is included in letters sent to their home addresses, to ensure their call is handled most efficiently by February 27.
“Those who have not received a letter or the discount but think they are eligible should call 0800 030 9322 by 27 February.”
Households in England or Wales qualify for the Warm Home Discount if they are the named billpayer on their energy bill, and receive any of the following means-tested benefits:
- Housing Benefit
- Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA)
- Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA)
- Income Support
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit
If you live in England or Wales, your electricity supplier will apply the discount to your bill automatically. If you live in Scotland, energy suppliers set the criteria for the scheme so households should contact their supplier to check their eligibility.
