Arsenal have reportedly positioned themselves as favourites to sign Newcastle United star Anthony Gordon during the summer transfer window. Whilst the forward has attracted interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, Arsenal have gained an advantage over their competitors and are confident he would welcome a move to the capital.
Gordon nearly joined Liverpool in 2024. Newcastle were at that point unwilling to sanction his departure for under £100million, though Arsenal are now optimistic about acquiring him for £75m. According to The Sun, the north Londoners will pursue a move this summer despite attention from Liverpool and Manchester United.
Mikel Arteta is believed to be a long-standing admirer of the winger, with speculation first surfacing earlier this year.
Arsenal are now understood to be frontrunners ahead of Liverpool and United, with confidence within the club that Gordon would be receptive to relocating to north London.
With two years left on his contract, and whilst Newcastle are reluctant to part with him, there is a sense they might entertain discussions if presented with the appropriate proposal.
Notwithstanding Gordon’s Premier League and international credentials, the same report suggests Arsenal are targeting a fee around £75-£80m.
Gordon, however, brushed aside speculation of a transfer last week, asserting his contentment at Newcastle.
When probed about the whispers of him being the next high-profile departure from Tyneside, he said: “About me? I haven’t seen them. What are they saying?”

Upon learning of his recent links to Arsenal and Liverpool, Gordon retorted: “It’s the same old, same old. I think they just pick names out of a hat. They do (names out of the hat). I haven’t heard anything; they might want to tell me before they tell you (the media).”
He continued: “I am focused on me and focused on the team, I am focused on right now.
“You look too far in the future and you start to underperform. And believe me I have done that [before] and I am not going to do that now.”
The report suggests that Arsenal are keen to bolster their left flank, which could cast doubt over Gabriel Martinelli’s future.
The Brazilian has had an inconsistent presence in the squad throughout the season, contributing to only three Premier League goals thus far.
In addition to Gordon’s evident talents, his blistering speed and goal-scoring threat, Arteta is reportedly fond of his adaptability, with Eddie Howe deploying him as a No. 9 on several occasions this season.
Arsenal splashed out over £250million on eight first-team players last summer, but their deep runs in the Champions League and cup tournaments have put them in a robust position to reinvest once more.
